Established in 1921, Ridsdale is the oldest fully equipped custom steel fabricating plant in Cambridge. In the early years, the company established itself in the residential sector, creating sheet metal ducting for coal and wood furnaces.
As heating technology progressed, Ridsdale provided ducting for the new oil and gas furnaces that were becoming popular. Evolving with the times, and supported by strong repeat business, the company was well prepared when new opportunities presented themselves in the region's booming industrial sector.
Today, the large number of important high-tech firms surrounding Cambridge, have earned the region the nickname The Technology Triangle. Ironically, in the first part of the 20th century, the Galt, Hespeler, Preston area could have been called The Textile Triangle, as large factories of all kinds, especially those producing textiles, flourished. These larger workplaces required better ventilation in order to safeguard the workers well-being and sustain productivity. Ridsdale's experience in ducting launched them into the expanding industrial sector, where they provided dampers, ducting and eventually other fabricated metal products like machine guards and brackets.
This transition from residential light metal to industrial steel propelled Ridsdale into a new arena. They quickly won a contract to produce fan casings for the ventilation systems on Frigates in the Canadian Forces Maritime Command. With increasing in-shop technology and expanding experience, the company quickly became the area's "go to" firm for custom fabrication and expert welding.
Today's Ridsdale continues to grow within that legacy. With a history of leadership and a true understanding of quality, the company offers depth of experience and a skilled and creative staff capable of meeting even the most challenging manufacturing projects.
